The Great Outdoor Gym Company (TGO) are really excited to be supporting CBBC Blue Peter again on another episode which focuses on the 'Sport' and 'Green' badge joining forces.
The show was aired live on Friday 6th May on the CBBC channel but you can still catch up on the BBC iplayer now, featuring 4 pieces of equipment from the TGO Power Smart Range. You get to see Blue Peter presenter Adam use the TGO Power Smart Bike throughout the show to help with his training to attempt to cycle the length of Lake Windermere on a hydrofoil bike.
But not only that, the bike along with another 3 TGO Power Smart Handbikes powered by the children on the show are generating electrictity!

During the show Eco scientist and DJ James explains that the Power Smart units created by TGO turn the gym users kinetic energy into electricity:
"Kinetic energy is the energy that something has when it moves. In this case Adam's legs move, they turn the pedals, which spin this generator inside the bike and that produces electricity which we can use to power stuff. The best thing about this is that Adam's energy is renewable."
"...On your own you won't be able to generate a lot. Solar, wind and water energy is much more efficient. But you are generating electricity doing something you enjoy, exercise."
"So it's bonus clean electricity!"
The gym users are then set the challenge of powering the TV monitor in the studio that they will be calling 'Fan of the Month' on at the end of the show.
The electricity generated by all four bikes will be stored in batteries. Then at the end of the show they'll plug the TV into them and hopefully there'll be enough electricity stored to keep the TV on for the whole call.

James then continues to explain what else we can all do to help save energy:
"If every BP badge holder switched their screens off for just half an hour a day I've calculated that we'd all save a whoppin 475,000 kilograms of carbon in a year. That's the same as planting over 21,000 trees."
Blue Peter presenter Richie adds:
"Plus you could use that screen-free time to do some exercise. So everyone can get fit while saving the environment."
The shows then ends with the success of generating enough power to turn on the TV to speak to May's Fan of the Month, Jasmine also known as BPEcoWarrior who does so much for the environment. She organises litter picks, runs her own eco website, is raising money to install birdboxes in her village and so much more. Well done Jasmine, who rightly so earned her Green badge.
And well done to Adam & everyone in the @CBBC #BluePeter Studio who exercised throughout the show to generate enough people power to keep the TV on as well as using the energy left to charge phones and tablets.
